Andy Gray replaced Mark Tinkler at Right Half and Noel Whelan came on for Rod Wallace at Outside Right. John Lukic, Phil Masinga, Lee Sharpe and Andy Couzens were the unused substitutes for Leeds. David Wetherall received his marching orders in the second half, which made United's already difficult task, even harder. The game went to penalties and both teams converted the first five but after a long delay Noel Whelan hit United's sixth attempt against the crossbar. In the final Mamelodi Sundowns beat Kaiser Chiefs 3-0.
